Grant Park Renovation and Addition

Our clients loved their little Grant Park Bungalow! It had been so meticulously restored and renovated before they purchased, but being party-throwers, there was one thing they were driven to change – the kitchen! It was so small and there was only one way in and one way out. This was a perfect scenario for a party bottleneck because we all know the party happens in the kitchen!

And while doing a kitchen renovation why not consider expanding from a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom to a 4-bedroom, 4 ½-bathroom home? To solve all these problems we decided the best approach would be to create a two-story addition that was modest in scale. It aligned with the existing house and neighborhood but still was able to give them all the space they needed.

The result was that the front of the home was untouched and they gained an efficient, but spacious, addition that allowed for entertaining and created a strong connection between the inside and outside. The rear façade has plenty of windows and large folding doors that open the kitchen to a large deck overlooking the backyard. The second level contains a luxurious master suite, a guest room/study with an en suite bathroom, and a laundry room tucked neatly into the attic space of the original home. This addition also allowed for a new basement area which not only created easy access to their utilities, but gave them an additional man-cave living space.
